Kamensk Uralsky Metallurgical Works finishes a mayor overhaul for $800 M

Kamensk Uralsky Metallurgical Works announced that a major plant overhaul started in 2012 and funded with RUB 45 billion ($800 million) will be finished in 2018. At the moment the final tests are running.

Among major equipment suppliers are SMS Group (Germany), Ebner (Austria) and Danieli (Italy)

Kamensk Uralsky Metallurgical Works is one of the biggest manufacturers of aluminum products in Russia, located 100 km southeast of Yekaterinburg. For more than 60 years, the company has been manufacturing semi-finished goods made of aluminum, magnesium and aluminum-lithium alloys especially for aerospace industry. 

The new annually plant capacity will be 166 thousand tons which should allow to cover the demand in Russian market. According to the main shareholder Viktor Vekselberg, it will be one of the three largest complexes in the world of this kind. On a number of parameters, the plant will surpass the world’s leading standards and replace any potential aluminium semi-product import in aviation, transport and other industries.
