TV Tower (220 m) demolished by a controlled explosion

The Yekaterinburg TV Tower and city’s landmark with a height of 220 m was demolished by a controlled explosion.

The TV Tower was believed to be the tallest incomplete structure in the world. It was built in 1983, but never became operational. Nevertheless, it became a kind of city’s symbol and a number of supporters tried to change the decision.

The place will be used for the construction of a new sport arena with a capacity of 15,000 visitors.

The explosion event attracted people all over the country. Travel agencies noted an sales increase of flight tickets to Yekaterinburg of 18% in days before.
