TV Tower (220 m) demolished by a controlled explosion

The city’s remarkable tv tower  with a height of 220 was erected in 1983, but never went into operation. After long discussions, the decision was made to use the attractive place in the city center for a new sport arena for 15,000 visitors. In the morning, the tower was demolished by a controlled explosion, not an easy task from engineer’s point of view.

The event attracted people all over the country. Travel agencies noted an sales increase of flight tickets to Yekaterinburg of 18% in days before.
