Two traffic police officers sentenced to 8 years in prison for bribe charges

Two traffic police officers were sentenced to 8 years in prison and a fine of 100k rubles ($1.500) for accepting a bribe of 12,000 rubles ($200) from a driver. The court announced its verdict on April 6, 2018 in Yekaterinburg.

The officers were detained in May 2017 by the internal security department of traffic police which is in charge for investigation of misconducts within the body.

Local representative of Ministry of Internal Affairs says: ”The traitors, there is no other name, were immediately dismissed from the police service in 2017.  More over, in accordance with the common practice  strict disciplinary actions were taken against their four direct supervisors.

In January, the court sentenced  two other traffic police officers for an attempt to take money from a drunk driver.

Bribery of traffic police has been seen for a long time as a petty offense. But the law qualifies it clearly as a criminal act.
